NBA TOP SCORERS OF ALL TIME -The National Basketball Association has seen a lot of great players grace the basketball court, but some stand out due to the number of times they are able to shoot their ball through the hoop. Here are ten of them who ranks highest on the list.

1.Kareem Abdul-Jabbar

 Abdul-Jabbar was a professional basketball player, now retired. He played for the Milwaukee Bucks and the Los Angeles Lakers. Playing for 20 seasons (1969-1989) in the National Basketball Association (NBA), he scored a total of 38,387 points in 1560 games, which makes him the first on the list of the NBA top scorers of all time.

He played center during his career and is the record holder for the NBA Most Valuable Player, with six. In 1970, he was named the NBA Rookie of the Year, which also earned him a place in the NBA All-Rookie First Team the same year. He was also the NBA All-Star, with nineteen selections. Abdul-Jabbar has been selected fifteen and eleven times in the All-NBA and NBA All-Defensive Team respectively.

 He was voted the Most Valuable Player in an NBA final twice and in 1996, he was named one of the 50 greatest players in NBA history. During his illustrious career as an NBA player, he won the NBA championship six times. He was the NBA scoring champion twice in 1971 and 1972.

2.Karl Malone

Malone is an NBA professional player, who played the power forward position for Utah Jazz, and then played one season for the Los Angeles Lakers, before retiring in 2004. He scored 36,928 career points and is the second on the list of NBA top scorers of all time.

Malone was voted the NBA Most Valuable Player twice in 1997 and 1999. He was selected in the NBA All-Rookie First team in 1986, the NBA All-Star game fourteen times, and also the All-NBA team fourteen times; eleven times in the first team, twice in the second team and once in the third team. This makes him the second most selected player for the first team, tied with Kobe Bryant, with both behind LeBron James.

He’s a two times NBA All-Star game Most Valuable Player in 1989 and 1993. Malone was selected in the NBA All-Defensive Team four times; three times in the first team(1997-1999) and once in the second team(1988). He won the Olympic gold medal twice in his career while representing the United States Men’s Basketball team, in 1992 and 1996.

3.Kobe Bryant

He played for the Los Angeles Lakers throughout his career which spanned from 1996 to 2016 and won five NBA championships while playing as a shooting guard. During his 20 season-long career at the NBA, he scored a total point of 33,643 which placed him third on the  NBA top scorers of all time list.

Bryant was selected for the NBA All-Star eighteen times and won the Most Valuable Players four times in those games. He made the All-NBA Team fifteen times in his career and was selected for the NBA All-Defensive Team twelve times. During his fifteen selections for the All-NBA Team, he made the first team eleven times and made the second team and third team twice apiece.

In his selections for the NBA All-Defensive Team, he made the first team nine times and the second team three times, with the most recent one in 2012. He was voted the NBA Most Valuable Player in 2008. Bryant was in the NBA All-Rookie Second Team in 1997 and also won the NBA Slam Dunk Contest that year. He won the NBA Scoring Champion for two consecutive years (2006 and 2007). His shirt numbers(8 and 24) were retired by the Los Angeles Lakers after his retirement in 2016.

4.LeBron James

The American basketball player is one of the highest-scoring point scorers in the NBA, making him widely regarded as one of the greatest players of the game.

He won three NBA championships so far in his career and has scored 32,543 points. This number is the fourth highest on the list of the NBA top scorers of all time.

In 2004, he was named the NBA Rookie of the Year and has been voted the Most Valuable Player of the competition four times.  He was named the Most Valuable Player in all the three NBA championship finals he has won. James has appeared in the NBA All-Star games since 2005, to date (2019).

In fifteen of his NBA All-Star game appearances, he has won the Most Valuable Player in three of them.

James has fifteen appearances in the All-Star NBA Team and holds the record for the most first-team appearances with twelve, he has two in the second team and one in the third team. In his six appearances in the NBA All-Defensive Team, five were in the first team and one was in the second team.

James was voted in the NBA All-Rookie First team in 2004 and was the NBA scoring champion in 2008. For the Men’s United States national team, he won the gold medal in the FIBA Americas Championship in 2007 and also won the Olympic gold medal twice, in 2008 and 2012.

5.Michael Jordan

Jordan is considered by many to be the greatest players in the history of the NBA. His 32,292 points scored placed him in the fifth position on the  NBA top scorers of all time log. He played as a shooting guard in his fifteen seasons in the NBA, where he won six NBA championship titles and was the NBA Most Valuable Player in each of the wins. He was voted NBA Most Valuable Player on five occasions and was in the NBA All-Star games fourteen times, three of which he won the Most Valuable Player in.

Jordan was in the All-NBA First Team and NBA All-Defensive First Team on ten and nine occasions respectively. In 1985, he was voted the Rookie of the year and featured in the All-Rookie Team. He was the scoring champion ten times. Jordan won the Olympic gold medal with the United States men’s basketball team twice and also won it in the FIBA Americas Championship and Pan American Games.

6.Dirk Nowitzki

He’s a retired German NBA player who won the NBA championship once in 2011. He was the Most Valuable Player in the final. Scoring a total of 31,560 points during his career, Nowitzki is the sixth name on the NBA top scorers of all time list.

He was voted the NBA Most Valuable Player in 2007 and has featured in the NBA All-Star games fourteen times. He was voted in the All-NBA First Team four times, five times in the second team and team and three times in the third team.

7.Wilt Chamberlain

He is a retired American NBA player who scored 31,419 points throughout his NBA career. On the NBA top scorers of all time list, he is the seventh highest. Chamberlain won the NBA championship in 1967 and 1972 and  won the Most Valuable Player in the final of the latter

He was voted the NBA Most Valuable Player in 1960 and went on to win it on three more occasions(1966-1968). He played the NBA All-Star games thirteen times and was the MVP in one of them. On seven occasions, he was voted in the All-NBA First Team and was in the second team three times. He was voted the NBA Rookie of the Year in 1960 and was the scoring champion between 1960-1966.

8.Shaquille O’Neal

The American born basketballer is one of the greatest players in the history of the NBA. He won four NBA Championship titles in his entire career and was voted the Most Valuable Player in three of them. O’Neal won the NBA Most Valuable Player in 2000 and has featured in the NBA All-Star games fifteen times, where he was voted the MVP in three of them.

He was voted in the All-NBA Team fourteen times; eight in the first team, two in the second team and four times in the third team. His total point score of 28,596 ranks eighth on the list of the NBA top scorers of all time. He won the Olympic gold medal in 1996 and the FIBA World Cup in 1994. In 1993, he was voted the NBA Rookie of the Year and made the NBA All-Rookie First Team the same year. He was also the scoring champion twice, in 1995 and 2000.

9.Moses Malone

He won the NBA championship title in 1983 and was voted the MVP in the same final. Though, that’s the only time he won it. He scored 27,409 points in his NBA career and this placed him ninth on the  NBA top scorers of all time list. On three occasions, Malone was the NBA Most Valuable Player and appeared in the NBA All-Star games twelve times. He voted four times in the All-NBA First Team and also four times in the All-NBA second team. He was in the NBA All-Defensive First and Second Team in 1983 and 1979 respectively.

10.Elvin Hayes

The American retired NBA player scored 27,313 points Ms during his NBA career, which makes him the tenth person on the list of the top NBA top scorers of all time.

Hayes won the NBA championship in 1978 and featured in the NBA All-Star games twelve times. He made the All-NBA First and Second Team three times apiece and was also named in the NBA All-Rookie First Team in 1969; a year in which he was also the NBA scoring champion.
